The mother of Ashli Babbitt, the woman who was fatally shot by police at the Capitol on Jan. 6, reportedly blames House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) for her daughter’s death.
What she said: “My daughter was a California constituent, and Nancy Pelosi not only, I feel like, orchestrated the death of my daughter,” Michelle Witthoeft, Babbitt’s mother, said, according to The Western Journal.
Witthoeft reportedly claimed she tried contacting the House Speaker but she has not responded.
“I’ve reached out to Nancy Pelosi’s office several times, and she has yet to call me back because she’s too busy playing in her clubhouse with all of her elite people,” Witthoeft said. “You know, it’s the people’s house. It’s not your house, Nancy. It’s the people’s house. That’s my message to Nancy Pelosi.”
She also said that she wants accountability for her daughter’s death, according to the report.
“The Capitol Police should be held accountable like every other police department in the country,” Witthoeft added.
Over the weekend, Witthoeft attended the TPUSA Chapter Leadership Summit in Phoenix, Arizona, the National File reports. Rep. Paul Gosar (R-AZ), who spoke at the event, told the audience that she was in the crowd.
Witthoeft separately spoke to the National File at the event.
“My daughter died for this cause, there are still political prisoners being held in DC jail under horrible conditions as a result of this. They were protesting our American birth right to go and redress their government because everybody in this country knows that this is a stolen election. So I’m here to be my daughter’s voice because it has been silenced,” she said.
Worth noting: Former President Donald Trump has spoken about the death of Ashli Babbitt as well.
“There were no guns in the Capitol, except for the gun that shot Ashli Babbitt, and nobody knows who that man were,” he said earlier this month.
During a recent rally, he said: “And by the way, who shot Ashli Babbitt? Who shot Ashli Babbitt? Who? Who shot Ashli Babbitt? We all saw the hand, we saw the gun. I spoke to her mother the other day, an incredible woman, she’s just devastated, like it happened yesterday, devastated.”
“You know, if that were on the other side, the person that did the shooting would be strung up and hung,” Trump added. “Now they don’t want to give the name, they don’t want to give, but people know the name, people know where he came from, and it’s a terrible thing. Right, shot, boom, there was no reason for it. Who shot Ashli Babbitt? It’s got to be released.”
How we got here: An unidentified Capitol police officer shot Babbitt in the shoulder as she attempted to get through a broken window leading to the Speaker’s Lobby outside the House chamber at the Capitol. She later died of jer injuries and the officer was cleared of criminal wrongdoing.
Babbitt’s shooting was captured on video and went viral.
